STORYTELLER |
A rich love of story and the journey of experiencing one; a love of the language of music and where it can take people -- these are what drove me to composition. Before music, I wrote stories all of the time about all kinds of things. Creative output has always been a major part of my life and creating worlds or people and conflicts/resolution fascinated me. I've always loved film, my wife often jokes that I have "seen every movie ever" which isn't true but I admit I've seen a lot. At one point in my life I even considered becoming a screenwriter, I even had a shareware copy of "Movie Magic Screenwriter" that I barely understood how to use. Eventually I moved into music but that foundation and love of the art of filmmaking lead me to film scoring.

MUSICIAN
I've poured my time and study into writing and orchestration and telling stories with music. I've worked on several short films and three feature films as well as indie games and promotional/trailer videos. While my main focus is orchestral scoring I also have a background in rock and pop music having spent several years as a guitarist in a rock band. Diversity in genre is one of my strong suits as it makes me very adaptable to whatever is needed. I started out on Clarinet in 5th grade before ditching it for percussion a year late, I couldn't get the thing to sing anymore and...well I was too young to want to bash my head against the wall with it. My father is a classical guitarist and, eventually, I began playing the guitar as well. I headed up my own band with our own original material where I developed my songwriting and arranging skills. A lifelong interest in classical music pushed me into writing for orchestra and my desire to understand every facet of something is why I began learning absolutely everything I could about the orchestra. I'm not a university student, I began teaching music right out of high school so I've learned composition and orchestration by a combination of trial and error and personal study. My goal is to be the absolute best composer, which is impossible to reach as music is a lifelong study and development. It's a good goal to have, because I always want to be better every day.
